Flashcards 4 is a multi-media CD-ROM program for the PC designed to develop sight vocabulary with children of pre-school age and upwards. It is ideally suited for children with language delay or who are speakers of English as a second language. The program is customized for NZ and the USA
Features:
- Flash cards can be chosen from a data base of over 3,000 words for the New Zealand and USA versions.
- The database includes appropriate pictures and short videos (for some verbs or adverbs) which can be displayed with the words and sounds as flash cards.
- Selections are made of the words desired and these are saved as a set. Up to 30 sets may be saved per child name. Each session involves choosing (or creating and editing) the set you want to use. These words are then displayed as flash cards or can be used in a matching game.
- Flashcards can be displayed with adjustable delays between words and pictures and between written words and spoken words and between the words/pictures and videos. A large variety of options are offered:

- You can add your own words and sounds to the database, use your own pictures and videos with flash cards. The program walks you through recording your own sounds.
- The flash cards are be able to be printed out as desired in a variety of formats
- You can export sets of words to floppy disk (or other media) so that they can be imported into Flashcards on another computer.
-
A "lotto" board style of matching game can be played using some or all of the words from the set chosen. Lotto boards can hold up to 4, 6 or 9 words. An example of a lotto board that can take up to 6 words is shown below:

- The lotto boards have a number of options including displaying either or both the words and the pictures on the board initially, matching picture or word with what is on the board (useful at early levels of learning) and having the word spoken on a successful match-up.
- Lotto boards can be printed out in a variety of formats.
-
Sets of words (including any pictures and sounds for added words in the set) can be exported for use on another computer or imported from floppy disk, USB flash drives or other media.
-
Flashcards 4 can be easily used in conjunction with our StoryMaker program (for creating stories) and allows you to import words added to StoryMaker with the click of a mouse button.
-
The program can be customized to be used with an unlimited number of children

For the CD version, shipping and production charges are added to this.
The trial and CD versions are identical.
Note: The downloadable version requires a download of 170 MB (for US version) or 150 MB (NZ version). If StoryMaker 3 is fully installed only a 31 MB download is required.
Advantages of the Downloaded version:

You can be up and running in minutes

No freight or CD production charges

No CD required to run
Flashcards 4 System Requirements:
Minimum requirements: Pentium with 64 MB RAM, an 8 speed CD-ROM drive and a 16 bit sound card. The program will run slowly under such a system and some features may not limited.
Graphics requirements: All modern graphics cards are suitable.
Recommended requirements: Pentium II 700 or faster with 128 MB of RAM (256 MB for Windows XP or 512 MB for Vista), and a 24 speed (or faster) CD-ROM drive.
The power of the computer and its graphics card will determine the size you will need to choose to display video clips. A modern PC with a quality graphics card will be able to display videos full screen.
Disk space requirements:
Reduced Installation (CD version only): Requires at least 16 MB of disk space. If you want to add your own flash cards you will need additional hard disk space (the amount needed depends upon the number of cards you wish to add and the quality of the pictures and sounds for the cards).
Full Installation (the only option for the downloaded version): 250 MB of disk space is needed (US version) or 210 MB for NZ version - the program then runs entirely off the hard disk. This can be considerably reduced if StoryMaker 3 is fully installed.
The program requires Microsoft Windows 98, ME, NT4, 2000, XP or Vista.
The CD version is on recordable-CDs. All modern CD-ROM drives are designed to read these CDs without problems.
